OakTune user guide
Start simply. Add your music, play a song, then use playlists, lyrics, Listening Presets and smart tools only when they are useful to you.
Five-minute quick start
- Add music. On Android, allow music access and choose Scan phone music. On iPhone/iPad, import or select files that OakTune can access.
- Open Library. Search by title, artist or album, then tap a song to play it.
- Use Playing. Play/pause, seek, skip, shuffle and repeat are the primary controls. Queue, lyrics and sleep timer are available when needed.
- Create a playlist. Use a playlist when you want an ordered collection of songs that you can keep editing.
- Create a Listening Preset. Use a preset when you want one tap to restore both the music source and playback behavior such as order, shuffle, repeat, speed, fade or timer.

Browse and search your own tracks. Standard mode keeps filters compact; Advanced mode exposes more sorting and technical controls.

Playlists versus Listening Presets

Create a Listening Preset from individual songs
- Open Presets and choose New Preset.
- Under Music source, choose Songs.
- Search your library and select tracks one by one.
- Open Selected to review, remove or reorder them.
- Choose shuffle, repeat, start behavior, speed, sound or Stop after only if you need them.
- Save the preset and start it once to confirm the result.
OakTune stores references to your library. Creating or deleting a preset does not delete the audio files.
Lyrics while a song is playing
OakTune resolves local lyrics in this order: your local edit → same-name .lrc file → supported embedded lyrics. It does not require a lyric account or scrape lyric websites.
- Synchronized lyrics highlight and auto-scroll with playback.
- Tap a timed lyric line to seek to that moment.
- Use Import LRC when storage rules prevent automatic discovery.
- Plain lyrics remain readable without pretending to be synchronized.
- Removing a local edit returns to the best automatic local source.
Smart Playlists and audio analysis
On-device audio analysis can estimate descriptors used by private mixes and Smart Playlist rules. Raw audio is not uploaded to RuleOak. Choose Analyze now for a visible run, or allow conservative background analysis. If analysis is blocked, OakTune shows the reason instead of silently doing nothing.
Smart Playlist results are explainable and editable. Treat tempo, mood and similarity values as useful estimates rather than perfect facts.
Appearance, language and expert controls
- Settings → General → Appearance: choose System, Light or Dark plus a color style.
- Settings → General → Language: choose a supported OakTune language or follow the system.
- Standard interface: recommended for everyday use.
- Advanced interface: reveals deeper technical controls and diagnostics without changing your music or purchases.
Personal sources and offline pins
Lifetime Pro can connect to personal HTTPS/WebDAV music sources that you explicitly configure. OakTune connects directly to that server; RuleOak does not proxy the connection. Use offline pins for music you need without a network connection.
Backup and restore
- Use OakTune metadata backup for playlists, presets and supported app state; audio files themselves are not included.
- Keep an independent copy of your original music library.
- Lifetime Pro is restored through Google Play or the App Store, not through a metadata backup.
- Password-encrypted cross-platform migration is a Pro capability. Keep the password somewhere safe; RuleOak does not know it.
Free Basic and Lifetime Pro
Free Basic is intended to be a useful music player, not a timed trial. On Android, Free Basic may show restrained visual banners on eligible foreground screens, including Now Playing only when its layout-safety gate passes. OakTune does not use RuleOak audio ads and does not pause or duck music for advertising. Lifetime Pro is an optional one-time purchase for higher limits, advanced local-library/source/migration capabilities and an ad-free OakTune experience. The current iOS tranche remains ad-free. OakTune has no subscription.

Troubleshooting
A song does not appear in Library
Check music permission, then rescan after moving or adding files. On Apple platforms, confirm the file was imported or selected from a location OakTune can access.
A song will not play
Try another known-good local file. Unsupported format, missing file, permission, decoder, network, output-device and transport-security failures are handled differently. If the problem persists, share a redacted diagnostic report.
Playback paused after headphones or Bluetooth disconnected
This is intentional protection against unexpected speaker playback. Reconnect the desired output, then press Play.
Lyrics are missing
Use a same-name LRC file, import an LRC explicitly, or add/edit local lyrics. Embedded lyrics are used when the file contains a supported lyric field.
Lifetime Pro is not restored
Use the same store account that purchased it, connect to the internet and choose Restore purchase. Do not buy it again until restore has been tried. See Purchase Help for the full recovery flow.

Open OakTune Settings and share a redacted report if requested, then email support@ruleoak.com with the app version, device/OS, expected result, actual result and reproducible steps.
Capabilities can vary by device, operating-system version, media format, output route and personal source. OakTune never promises that resampling or bitrate inflation can restore information missing from a source recording.
